Today's Office
"Today's Office" will provide training three days per week for a period of twelve weeks.
It will consist of Advanced Computer Training combined with both Personal and Professional
Development. Advanced Computer Training will consist of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS
PowerPoint and other Computer skills required to perform the daily tasks required while working
in administrative positions.
Personal Development includes enhancing self-esteem, money management, personal hygiene and other
skills that may be required to develop one's personal well being. Professional Development
includes developing and maintaining a resume, interviewing techniques, employee morals and ethics,
professional dress and other skills to increase the quality of professionalism necessary in a professional
environment.
After successfully completing the program, all students will be required to take the
Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS).
The MOUS certification acknowledges you have the expertise to work with Microsoft Office programs.
Adult Education
General Education Development (GED)
Participants will be able to complete their academic high school education in this self-paced program.
They will study to take the five-part GED exam and if they pass, a GED certificate will be awarded, which
is the legal equivalent of a high school diploma.
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Adult Basic Education helps people 16 years old and upwards with basic reading, writing, grammar and math
skills through the eighth grade level. These classes will be free.
English As A Second Language (ESL)
People who do not speak English well and need to acquire basic English literacy skills can take ESL classes,
which will be free.
Human Resources Development (HRD)
The HRD program offers pre-employment training, counseling and job placement assistance or further training
for unemployed and underemployed adults. Training focuses on developing employability skills such as job
readiness, interpersonal skills, motivation and goal-setting, listening and oral communications, problem
solving and career assessment.
Keyboarding
This beginning course in keyboarding is for those with no previous keyboarding instruction or who have not
attained the performance requirements for keyboarding principles. This course provides a strong foundation
for professional typists and personal use, covering: 1) correct touch operation of the keyboard; 2) straight
copy skill of not less than 30 words per minute; 3) the ability to copy, arrange, and position block style
letters, memorandums and manuscripts with simple footnotes and endnotes; (4) experience and understanding of
related skills such as centering, tabbing and composing at the keyboard.
Special Programs
Family Night
Children and parents learn computer skills together. Families will create fun things including iron-on
T-shirts with their pictures, mouse pads with their pictures on it, family refrigerator magnets, or photo
greeting cards.
Senior Evening
Seniors (aged 60+) will learn basic computer skills focusing on searching the web, emailing family members
and creating computer crafts.
